FAQ's
Sunless Glow By Dani
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Shave or Wax-
Shave or wax at least 24-48 hours before your spray tan to allow your pores to close and prevent dark spots from forming. Avoid using razors with moisture strips, as they can leave a residue that may interfere with the tan.
Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate!
Use an oil-free exfoliator to slough off dead skin cells, especially around rough areas like elbows, knees, and ankles. Proper exfoliation promotes even coverage and helps your tan last longer.
Moisturize Regularly-
Keep your skin hydrated with daily moisturizing in the days leading up to your tan. However, avoid applying lotion the day of your appointment to ensure optimal tan absorption!
Take a Basic, Cool Shower
Rinse off in the morning, and avoid hot water. Stick to a cooler temperature to keep your pores closed for a smoother application.
No Lotion, Creams, or Perfumes-
Do not apply any lotions, creams, oils, or perfumes before your session, as these can create a barrier between your skin and the tanning solution.
No Deodorant-
Skip deodorant on the day of your appointment. The tanning solution can react with deodorant, potentially causing a harmless green tint when the two mix.
Exfoliate Thoroughly-
Exfoliating promotes even coverage and prolongs the life of your tan. Focus on dry areas like knees, elbows, and ankles to ensure smooth application.
Shave or Wax 24-48 Hours Prior-
Shave or wax at least 24 hours before your tan to allow your skin time to recover and your pores to close. Avoid razors with moisture strips to prevent residue.
No Lotions or Products on Tan Day-
Avoid applying lotions, creams, or perfumes on the day of your tan. These products can create a barrier that impacts the tan’s final result. No dove products!
Avoid Deodorant-
Deodorant can cause a green tint when mixed with the spray tan solution, so it’s best to skip it.
Your spray tan tech will bring everything necessary for your appointment! The spray tan tent is about 4ftx4ft and almost 7ft tall. Please make sure that you have adequate lighting and an electrical outlet close by. The tent will catch all overspray, preventing any mess!
Female clients may choose to tan in whatever you feel comfortable in—bikini, underwear/bra, topless, or nude also consider tan lines you want or don’t want. Male clients must wear an undergarment or bathing suit. Please keep in mind the solution will get on any garment worn, so wearing dark clothing is best. *Under 18 years old must wear a bikini/undergarments and have parental consent.
Mobile tans are quick and easy, and the best part is you don’t even have to leave your home. SunlessGlowByDani will bring a pop-up tent, requiring a 5×5 space preferably near an outlet and a room with good lighting. From there, we will decide on the best solution and/or tone for you. We are usually in and out within 45 minutes when clients are prepped and ready, leaving you with that perfect luxury tan you needed.
After you receive your spray tan, you will want to put on dark, loose clothing (sundress, loose top, and shorts are the best option) with flip flops. Avoid wearing a bra, socks, leggings, or other restrictive clothing. The looser the fit, the better to avoid any streaking as the tan develops. Bring an umbrella or wear something with a hood if it’s raining.
Refrain from showering for 24 hours minimum. Do not wait longer than 24 hours to shower, as this can cause over dehydration in the skin, leading to spotty skin. Your first shower post spray tan should be warm water rinse (NO SOAP). Pat yourself dry with a soft towel afterward. You will notice the cosmetic bronzer washing away, leaving your skin with a natural glow. If you have an Xpress Tan, you will need to shower no longer than 3 hours post-spray. Your specialist will give you an exact rinse/shower time based on your consultation; this rinse time is very important as the end result will depend on how long you waited to rinse off initially.
Please refrain from any activities that will cause perspiration until after your first rinse.
We recommend keeping yourself hydrated and moisturizing twice a day (avoid any moisturizers with AHA which promotes exfoliation and DHA that has self-tanner and can potentially cause a yellow tone). Avoid long baths, showers, and chlorinated pools. Do not exfoliate until you are ready to remove your tan.
Your spray tan should last about 5-7 days, depending on your skin type and how well you take care of your sunless tan. Maintenance plays a part in this timeline as well.
NO! We do not advise having a spray tan over peeling skin. The full peel and healing process can take anywhere between 3-6 weeks. You will have to reschedule your appointment if you are peeling.
A spray tan will NOT cover sunburn. If you have sunburn prior to your appointment, we will advise you not to spray tan. Once a sunburn begins to peel, the spray tan will go along with it, causing an uneven look. Please inform us prior to your appointment if you have sunburn.
Absolutely not! Always apply sunscreen. Remember, the solution does not contain any UV protection/sunscreen. We recommend using a water-based SPF over your spray tan, which will allow you to still develop a tan naturally while keeping your skin protected.
-Event: two days before special occasion to give the tan a chance to soften and blend
-Vacation: tan as close to your departure date as possible to ensure your tan looks beautiful the entire trip. Keeping in mind of applicable rinse/shower times
We love our brides at Sunless Glow By Dani!
We recommend tanning 2 days before your wedding day. You can do a trial run to ensure you like the color, but we suggest one airbrush session close to your special day. We suggest a light/ medium color in the tone that best suits you. Following the instructions on color and scheduling will help ensure you look flawless on your wedding day.
If you are experiencing “orange” results with other spray tans, it can be due to the quality of sunless solutions. Low-grade DHA and cheap products often react poorly with the skin, causing an “orange” appearance. Overexposure, over-darkening, or using expired products can also contribute to this effect. If you are experiencing “orange” results with high-quality solutions (like Norvell), it could be due to your skin’s chemistry. A pH imbalance or improperly prepared skin can impact how your sunless glow tan looks. We start each service with a pH balancing solution that coats your skin and balances any overly dry areas to create the most even and natural-looking glow possible. Traditional soaps (like Dove, Dial, and Caress) strip the skin’s acid mantle of its natural oils, leading to an unbalanced pH, which creates uneven fading, rapid fading, orange tans, and dry skin.
I have been trained in superior sunless tanning techniques. I am truly passionate about my craft and always looking to perfect it. Simply put, it’s not a spray tan, it’s a SUNLESS GLOW!
